Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf



Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is the 24th and current president of Liberia. She is the first female elected head of State in Africa. She was born on 29 October 1938 in Liberia. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf attended College of West Africa in Monrovia, Liberia; University of Colorado at Boulds, Havard University and Madison Business College. She married James Sirleaf when she was 17 years old and then traveled with him to the United States in 1961 to continue her studies and earned an accounting degree. She was awarded the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with Leymah Gbowee of Liberia and Tawakel Karman of Yemen.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is the mother of four sons and has grandchildren.
