Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is the fourth and current president of Kenya. He was elected president of Kenya on April 9, 2013. He previously served in the Government of Kenya as Minister of Local Government from 2001 to 2002, and he was leader of the official opposition from 2002 to 2007. He was also deputy Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was born on 26 October 1961, in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the son of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's founding father and first president from 1964 - 1978. His name, Uhuru is Swahili for "freedom".
President Uhuru Kenyatta attended St. Mary's School in Nairobi, then he went to study political science at Amherst College in the United States.
